Frequently Asked Questions

Affordable Pyrethrum Insecticide

How “Safe” is pyrethrum, the natural insecticide?
Pyrethrum is extracted from the chrysanthemum flower. It is clear and free of allergens. Furthermore, Pyrethrum has a low toxicity level, it is water based and biodegradable. This insecticide protects the chrysanthemum flowers from plant-eating insects. Insects do not build up immunity to pyrethrum as they do other chemicals and synthetic compounds dangerous to humans.
Does pyrethrum leave a residue like other chemicals and synthetic compounds?
NO. Pyrethrum is completely biodegradable. After pyrethrum affects the mosquitoes and other insects, it decomposes harmlessly.
Will pyrethrum insecticides harm my pets?
Used according to the label instructions, the insecticide is considered non-toxic to mammals. Pyrethrum insecticides have been used in agricultural and equine applications for a quarter century with no known harmful effects.
Is pyrethrum effective against any other insects?
Yes. Almost all insects are killed or repelled effectively by pyrethrum including mosquitoes, flies, spiders, gnats, roosting wasps and all other insects.
How “automatic” is the system?
Totally automatic and maintenance free. This is one of the key advantages of the system. You will never have to worry, or plan ahead to be able to enjoy your yard!
How often should I set the timer to come on?
Let nature be your guild. In early spring 1 or 2 times a day for 1 minute should be adequate. As different pests swarm or become active, you may increase or decrease the number of sprays you use. You should never need to exceed 6 times per 24-hour period.
What maintenance is required on the system?
You should rinse your intake filter (that hangs inside the drum) each time you refill your drum. Washing your intake filter prevents clogging of your nozzle tips and filters. (2) Your tank should be washed out at least once a year to remove any natural bacterial growth or residue accumulation. (3) When refilling your system, check to assure pressure is set under 200 PSI. This prolongs the life of your pump. (4) If at all possible, use softened or filtered water to prolong the life of your tips and filters.
How long before I have to refill?
The frequency of re-filling your system will depend on the number of spray nozzles, the number of sprays per 24 hours, the severity of the insect problem and the length of each spray cycle. Our finely machined spray nozzles each emit approximately 1.1 ounce per minute at 160 p.s.i.. The average customer sprays about four minutes total per day. This equates to a usage of about one-gallon per nozzle per month. All systems are protected by an automatic shut off that keeps the system from running when the tank is dry, thereby protecting your pump from being destroyed. The system shuts itself off when the liquid level is too low.
How many nozzles do I need?
That depend on what areas you want to cover. A good rule is to place 1 nozzle every 10 feet. Usually you place the nozzles under the eaves of your house and around the perimeter of you yard, usually along a fence line. In yard that are large we recommend that you trench to either flowerbeds or trees and place nozzle their too to eliminate biting insects in the middle of the yard too.
How difficult is it to install myself?
It is extremely easy. With a few simple tools like a drill, zippy ties and cutters you will be able to install the system yourself. You simply map out the area that you want to control the pest and then place the nozzles approximately every 10 feet around the perimeter of the property. If you need to tee of to another line, then you simple use one of our quick connect tee and start a new line. At the end of each line you will simply cap off the last nozzle.
What do I need to run a misting system?
You need a level area to place the system and a grounded 110 outlet to plug the system into.
What pressure do I set the system at?
Although the pump can pump pressures up to 250 psi, we recommend that you set the regulator at 160 psi for optimal performance.
